A few days back I installed avast internet security 7 and from then my utorrent speed gone down from 150 kb/s to 49kb/s.I have uninstalled avast but still the problem is persisting.What should I do to regain my speed?

Interested: How Can I open a port for utorrent?
I’m connected through a wireless connection. My download speeds are very slow compared to what they should be. In uTorrent, there is a red exclamation point that says that a firewall/router is limiting network traffic, and that I need to open a port.

My firewall is turned off. I am not the best at computers, is opening a port going to be extremely complicated?

Sounds like your router may be blocking or limiting the access. Look up your router online and check how to open ports there.

Matt: Over 40 seeds connected and 20 peers but still slow download on uTorrent?
I’m using uTorrent to download season 1 of A:tLA and there are over 40 seeds connected and 20 peers connected but it’s only downloading at about 50kb/s. Anyone know how to make the download go faster? You’d think it’d be going at least double that with so much seeds/peers connected.

Set the Maximum upload rate to 20 kB/s in Bandwidth settings and that’s the best you can do, if you set it higher it doesn’t do anymore good unless you’re wanting to help share parts of the files in the torrent to other peers.

When i click on a file on isohunt and then press download .torrent it gives me opition to chose run or save.Before when i used isohunt and utorrent the file would just start downloading on utorrent.How do i get to where the file just starts downloading? Some one please help?!

That is a browser setting-not sure what browser you are using.

If using Internet Explorer-just go to Options>Preferences>General in uTorrent and press the associate with torrent files button.

If using Firefox, go to Options>Applications and scroll down to Torrent.
Highlight Torrent and on the right side will be a drop down menu
Use uTorrent should be an option-if so choose.
If uTorrent is not there, choose “Use Other” and browse to the uTorrent exe (usually in program files) and select.

i just downloaded limewire and accidentally changed it to default for downloading torrents.. how can i change settings so that utorrent is the default??
i have vista so the furthest i got to was at control panel.

Control Panel>Folder Options>File Types. Find the TORRENT extension and change the app used to open it.

So am I correct in saying utorrent enables you to pull files off of other peoples computers and networks? So is it a virtual private network?

utorrent is a bittorrent client program. It will pull slices of files off computers that are also running a torrent client and have advertised that to a tracker. It can not get at other networks that have no path to the internet, and it can’t get files that are not advertised, or from computers not running a torrent prog.

a virtual private network is quite different.

I guess the most important thing is to choose torrents which have a good health that is they are available too 100% and there are enough seeders.

This guide below shows ways how to tweak some more but usually you don’t have to much but put your maximum download to about 90% of your connection’s maximum bandwidth.
